Edamame a Day Can Keep you Healthy
Edamame is a great bean that may not be familiar to you yet. If you wish to find edamame, check the freezer section. Before you can eat them, the beans will ultimately have to be removed from the shell. Removing the seeds is very simple though so don't worry. Just squeese the beans out by placing pressure behind them with your thumb and first finger. Edamame is also know as green soybean. Used in both Japanese cooking and vegetarian fair, there are a bunch of recipes to experiment with with your edamame. The reason for this is edamame has gained favor is because it is an outstanding source of protein. Our bodies require certain amino acids to function. Proteins that contain all of these amino acids are called complete. This bean is a complete protein. The fact that this is a complete protein makes it a favorate food for vegetarians. Nutritionally edamame is a great source of iron. One cup of edamame beans contains 17 grams of protein, twenty percent of our iron, and sixteen percent of our vitamin C. High in dietary fiber and low on the glycemic index, these beans are definately healthy. Although edamame is poisonous when raw, it is very easy to cook safely. There are any number of ways to cook edamame. The simplest way to cook these beans is to steam or boil them. You can impart a great salty touch to edamame by boiling them in very salty water. If you are allergic to soy, do not eat edamame. Those who suffer from gluten allergies can happily eat this bean though. Edamame is gluten free since it is a legume. If you don't want to have to worry about cooking edamame, it can sometimes be found dry roasted in the snack sections of the store. These are great out of hand or sprinkled over salads. Give green soy a try, it is a tasty nutricious option. Again look in the freezer section of your local store, you may be surprised to see a bag of edamame there. Health food stores may also carry different options when it comes to edamame and soy prodcuts, so check them out too.
